Questions
- How long should a title tag and meta description be?
- Roughly 50–60 characters for a title and 150–160 for a description. Google measures pixels rather than characters, so wide capitals truncate sooner than narrow lowercase — put the distinguishing words first.
- Does robots.txt keep a page out of Google?
- No, and this is the costliest misunderstanding in SEO. Disallow stops a crawl, not indexing — a blocked URL with links pointing at it can still appear, listed without a description. To keep a page out of the index you must allow the crawl and use a noindex tag.
- What size should an Open Graph image be?
- 1200×630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio, ideally under 300KB. Anything much smaller than 600×315 gets rendered as a small square thumbnail rather than a large card.
